Appalachian Beekeeping Collective

2021 MADE IN THE SOUTH AWARDS FINALIST

In the hills of Appalachia, the Appalachian Beekeeping Collective, a project of the nonprofit Appalachian Headwaters, empowers beekeepers in Virginia and West Virginia while reviving once-mined lands. With over a hundred beekeepers and hives in seventeen West Virginia counties and five in southwestern Virginia, the collective provides free training, hives, bees, and mentorship, creating a sustainable income source for locals through honey sales to the nonprofit.
